Learn more about Insurance
Since the dawn of recorded history, humanity has demonstrated a willingness to pool their resources in order to help other in times of need. Insurance is essentially the formalization of the basic principle of risk sharing into an organized fashion. Contracts, policies, and wordings have been developed over the years to ensure all parties in an insurance agreement are treated fairly and understand what course of action is to be taken in the event of a loss.
Historical documents suggest that as early as 5000 BCE, Chinese boat operators found it necessary to redistribute their cargoes to several boats as they approached treacherous rapids on the rivers. If one boat was lost, all of the boat owners shared the loss and no one was completely wiped out. As overseas shipments increased between nations, merchants found it impractical to deal with exposures in such an informal way. As a result, the insurance industry was born.
Depending on the type of coverage you are looking for, the costs of an insurance policy can vary drastically. The primary factors the influence the price of an insurance policy are as follows:
- Type of risk
- Market conditions for underwriting
- Value of any property being insured
- Loss history per individual / business
- Overall loss history industry wide
- and more
